COA District Cooling Plant 4

Austin Energy developed the idea of installing a pre-manufactured cooling plant on the roof of the City’s downtown Convention Center to tie-into and support their downtown district loop. CARTER•DESIGN ASSOCIATES was engaged by the Contractor, in a Design Build contract for design through construction. C•DA worked with the engineers to locate the plant and cooling towers on the roof in a way that would not be an eyesore or sound problem for the Convention Center (CC), pedestrians on the street or in the adjacent residential tower. We rendered it into a rooftop photograph so that Austin Energy could share it with the residents prior to construction thus mitigating later issues. Finishes and colors were chosen to blend into the surrounding facades.
