Central Utility Plant

CARTER•DESIGN ASSOCIATES was Architect of Record as a consultant to prime engineer for the design development thru construction of the new Central Utility Plant at the Capitol Complex. It involved a fully integrated cloud base Revit modeling for all disciplines to produce fully coordinated construction documents and BIM for future TFC maintenance use. Model passed from design team to CMR for use during construction.

The three-level facility is designed to hold pumps in the basement connecting into the campus building via pipe tunnels. Four chillers are accommodated on the main level with large upward lifting glass bi-fold doors for pedestrian viewing and installing or replace chillers in the future. Five cooling towers occupy the fully screened roof level, some are for future expansion. Roof screening is provided by aluminum louvers cantilevered out from the concrete structure behind around the entire perimeter. The roof is an inverted system hosting a long-term durable concrete wearing surface. . The exterior is a Texas granite and aluminum panel rainscreen system. C•DA worked with the contractor and granite sub to provide the energy mural.
