Haehnel Building

Haehnel Building is a late 19th / early 20th century commercial and residential structure.

As part the East Austin Revitalization Plan CARTER•DESIGN ASSOCIATES designed the full restoration and an addition for the adaptive use of the historic Haehnel Building as an office building for a national recycling company.  Most of the historic fabric was retained and incorporated into the design for the new use.  MEP systems were located in the basement and above the restrooms to maximize floor space and ceiling heights.  Furrdowns were utilized for inclusion of a fire protection system.  With multiple roof levels, detail attention was given to roof flashing details to ensure water tightness. including restoration of wooden gutters.  Existing Austin common brick exterior required clear coating to prevent water penetration.
