West Enfield

CARTER•DESIGN ASSOCIATES as the Prime Design Consultant in the Design / Build Team led by Chasco Constructors.  C•DA lead the team of landscape architects and engineers to rebuild West Enfield Neighborhood Pool.  The city planned to use the building plan for this project as the prototypical plan for future neighborhood pools.  It is efficient and simple.  It is situated to provide separation from MoPac Hwy for both sound and vision purposes.  The roof is a butterfly design tilted to surface drain at one end and a spout with stone base to prevent erosion. The super structure for the roof is separated from the CMU walls with coated wire link enclosure panels.   The walls are half high CMU rotated in and out to create a shadow effect in the sun.  The building houses the pool equipment, men’s and women’s toilets and showers, family toilet, and storage room.

The pool was sized and marked for lane swimming for team practice.  It is separated by a low sitting wall to protect younger children from the deeper pool.  Along the wall is a fabric shade structure. The toddler zero entry pool hosts bubblers that the children find fascinating.  There is a composite deck along the end of the pool opposite the building as requested in the public meeting programming process.

The site is access from the trail with limited parking available along the frontage road.  The project required coordination with the city water department for manhole replacements as well as negotiation with TxDot and the Design Commission to upgrade the trail and frontage road access in lieu of providing a sidewalk along the frontage road that TxDot did not want.  The entry structure from the trail was coordinated through the AIPP program and doubles as a bike rack.  The tennis courts were resurfaced and chain link enclosure added during the project.
