Buda City Park

Project Description

Master Planning

CARTER•DESIGN ASSOCIATES provided architectural services as consultant to the Landscape prime for Masterplan of City Park for City of Buda Parks and Trails. It included evaluation of existing facilities and recommendations for adaptive reuse and new facilities. Two architectural projects emerged from the planning process for which C•DA took the team lead in design, document production, coordination and construction administration services.

Amphitheater

C•DA designed an Amphitheater including a covered stage with a small back stage area consisting of dressing room storage and toilets. The design is simple and flexible with infrastructure capable for supporting large scale concert performances that bring or rent lights, speakers, mixing boards, and back stage support equipment and vehicles or small scale performances such as local theatre or group recitals. It is fully accessible utilizing ramps to define the space. The basic structure is a concrete stage, ramps, backdrop and walls with structural steel and metal roof.

Toilet Building

As support for use by the entire park including sport courts, splash pad, open areas and theatre, C•DA designed a central toilet facility that also houses storage, equipment for the splash pad and an exterior shower. Matching the amphitheater, it is a concrete open air construction. It houses six accessible, unisex toilets with open hand handwashing / baby changing facilities. The walls are concrete with wire mesh at the top and it is covered by structural steel with metal roof. It includes chemical storage and easily accessed chases for maintenance. A series of perforated metal canopies shade the path and toilets.
