We think of architecture not as a single practice, but an interconnected design and problem solving studio. Structures are inseparable from their landscapes and setting; ecology is inseparable from building requirements; and improving human relationships and experiences are the ultimate goal of any project. Aesthetic movements come and go, but we have found these principles to be timeless and have made them our mission since 1982.

Our goal is to provide services to a select group of public, not-for profit and private clients who demand an attention to detail solving their facility programming, building design, and space planning needs. Our expertise in historic architecture allows us to preserve and learn from the past as we plan and design structures for the future.

CARTER DESIGN ASSOCIATES’ collaborative structure and association with other professionals, allows us to assemble project teams with the expertise needed for a knowledgeable, impactful completion of our clients’ projects.

We endeavor to work with the many groups that have an interest in the project to effect a successful planning and building program.
