Pfluger Pedestrian Bridge

2001

Evaluated impact of pedestrian bridge options attached to the historic Lamar Bridge through EIP process, Included Public Design Process. Fully integrated engineering and architectural elements.

CARTER•DESIGN ASSOCIATES, as the managing partner of a Joint Venture, provided urban design, historic preservation consultation, and architectural services for the pedestrian and bicycle facility adjacent to the historic Lamar Bridge. Work included managing the “architectural” design team consisting of lighting consultants, landscape architects and urban designers. The architectural elements were therefore fully integrated with the engineering requirements of the bridge structure. The design parti resulted from a public design charrette and numerous public meetings involving local artists and the community in general. The charrette culminated in a preferred bridge configuration which the design team developed. The project has won numerous awards for engineering and architectural merits.
